Well before this fragrance's tobacco theme actually arrives at the finish, a dark, resinous opening greets you first, an interesting sequencing choice for a name built around smoke and warmth. Incense and bergamot arrive together at the top, smoky and citrus-bright at once, an early contrast that runs through the rest of the fragrance. Patchouli and sandalwood build the core, earthy and woody, deepening that smoky opening without adding sweetness just yet. Amber, tobacco leaf and vanilla form the dry-down, rich and warm, finally delivering the honeyed, tobacco-forward richness its name signals from the start. Daniel Josier classifies this as oriental woody, built with evening occasions in mind over daytime ease. Ambre Tabac Cologne suits dinners, formal occasions and settings that reward a fragrance with plenty of weight.
